The Washington State Legislature is a bicameral legislature, meeting for a 105 day session in odd numbered years, and a 60 day session in even numbered years. The Washington State Legislature consists of an upper chamber, the Senate, and a lower chamber, the House of Representatives. The 49 member Washington Senate is currently controlled by the Democrats, holding 25 seats, with the Senate Republicans holding 23 seats, along with one caucusing Independent Democrat. In the 98 member House of Representatives, Democrats hold 50 seats, and the Republicans hold 48 seats. Jay Inslee serves as the 23rd Governor of Washington, he is a member of the Democratic Party.
