The Mississippi Legislature is a bicameral legislature, meeting annually for sessions lasting 125 days every four years, and 90 days in the other years. The Mississippi Legislature consists of an upper chamber, the Senate, and a lower chamber, the House of Representatives. The 52 member Mississippi Senate is currently controlled by the Republicans, holding 31 seats, with the Senate Democrats holding 20 seats. One Senate seat remains vacant. In the 122 member Mississippi House of Representatives, Republicans hold 74 seats, and the Democrats hold 48 seats. Phil Bryant serves as the 64th Governor of Mississippi, he is a member of the Republican Party.
