The Iowa General Assembly consists of an upper chamber, the Senate, and a lower chamber, the House of Representatives. The 50 member Iowa Senate is currently controlled by the Republicans, holding 29 seats, with the Senate Democrats holding 20 seats. One seat is held by an Independent. In the 100 member Iowa House of Representatives, Republicans hold 59 seats, and the Democrats hold 41 seats. Kim Reynolds serves as the 43rd Governor of Iowa, she is a member of the Republican Party.
